The Trinity Schools Trust Board are the owners of the school and remain responsible for the buildings and grounds and more importantly, are responsible for ensuring the school’s Special Character is maintained and preserved. Special Character is the bedrock of our agreement with the Crown and is an essential element without which the school would not exist. All state integrated schools teach the New Zealand Curriculum, but keep their own Special Character usually a philosophical or religious belief as part of their school programme. As an integrated school, certain aspects of Rathkeale are governed by the Board of Proprietors, which is the Trinity Schools Trust Board.
Hadlow Preparatory School and St Matthew’s Collegiate School are also state integrated schools owned by the Trinity Schools Trust Board. National Education Goals , which are statements of desirable achievements by the school system, or by an element of the school system and. The review evaluates the performance of a school in promoting students’ progress and achievement according to the National istration Guidelines NAGs school boards are expected to comply with. Rathkeale College will be recognised as a school that provides a foundation for the future needs of young men. With the support of our community, our mission is to provide a learning environment that inspires students to use their talents, knowledge and skills to be the best they can be in academic, physical, cultural, social and spiritual dimensions of life. Rathkeale College is an Anglican school providing a unity of Day and Boarding components through programmes of worship and religious studies, upholding a strong moral code and providing a well rounded education that promotes excellence through academic, cultural and sporting pursuits in which all students and staff are expected to participate fully.
However, students in the senior school Years 12 and 13 engage in their academic work with St Matthew’s Collegiate senior students in the Rathkeale St Matthew’s Senior College based on the Rathkeale campus. Rathkeale College grounds and facilities are available for hire throughout the year. All Year 9 students are issued with a bulk lot of stationery on the first school day. The Anglican Special Character at Rathkeale College answers that question by pointing, as all Christian traditions do, to Jesus Christ. Consequently our aim is to teach and model the values of Love, Social Justice, Compassion, and whatever else makes for a good person.
Here they are given the message of God’s love for them and Christ’s mission for their lives, to go out into the world and love humanity. Our objectives are to support the students, teachers and the school community by funding extra cultural, academic and sporting resources as well as enhancing the campus. Every student, regardless of their background or beliefs, is expected to participate in the spiritual life of the school. The Senior College was formalised in 1988 and girls from St Matthew’s are now very much at home in Year 12 and 13 classes on the Rathkeale Campus. Over the years the Old Boys have made many significant contributions to the College. The Association seeks to reconnect Old Boys with the College and with each other.
Other developments for the Association in 2016 will hopefully include the development of regional Old Boys’ groups in Hawke’s Bay, Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch, Melbourne, London and within New Zealand Universities. There is also a very strong intent to formalize Ten Years On and Thirty Years On reunions led by key people in the relevant year group. Much of our uniqueness lies within our special character and the manner in which we expect students to conduct themselves both within and beyond the spiritual dimensions of school life

Founded under the auspices of the St Matthew’s Schools’ Trust Board and opened by Governor General Sir Bernard Fergusson in August 1963, Rathkeale College quickly developed into a leading boys’ school. Alongside Hadlow Preparatory School and St Matthew’s Collegiate School for Girls, Rathkeale is one of a group of three Trinity Schools affiliated to the Anglican Church.
From its foundation as an independent boys’ boarding school, the College has become known for its exceptionally beautiful campus and for the high accomplishments it achieves in academic, cultural and sporting pursuits. The Senior College was formalised in 1988 and girls from St Matthew’s are now very much at home in Year 12 and 13 classes on the Rathkeale Campus. This process brought a number of significant changes to the College but at heart Rathkeale continues to strive for excellence and to attract staff and students of a high calibre
